Active Directory Export

Csvde.exe is a Microsoft Windows command-line utility that is located in the SystemRoot\System32 folder. It is used to export (and import) Active Directory data into a comma-separated value format. The tool basically exports your AD without passwords, and provide information about your current mailboxes, users, contacts, and the relationship to distribution lists, memberships, and other important items.

  1. From a server that is running Active Directory for your organization,
open up a command prompt,  useStart > Run > type “CMD“  (without the quotes) > Click OK.
  2. Use the following syntax to run the tool from a command prompt:csvde -f c:\elephant-discovery.csv

Export Mailbox Storage Information

  1. On the Exchange Server(s), open Exchange System Manager.
  2. Locate each mailbox database and select Mailboxes to view the mailboxes with the mailbox size, item count, and other information.
  3. On the File menu, choose:Action > Export List > Select the location and filename and choose Tab Delimited as the file type > and click the Save button.NOTE: Make sure to use Tab Delimited when saving the file.
  4. Do the above steps on each mailbox database on each server.

Email the results

Email the contents of the Mailbox Storage Information files and the Active Directory export elephant-discovery.csv data files to your support engineer. We will then verify and do a sanity check on the information.
